COURSE OVERVIEW

Why is Sustainable Fashion Important?

The fashion sector is one of the largest and most influential industries in the world while also being one of the main contributors towards environmental and human damages. Industry practices, such as fast fashion, must change if we are to move towards more sustainable worlds. This change comes in the form of the sustainable fashion brands, we as an industry can move forwards and help our planet.

If you are interested in learning how sustainable practices can be incorporated into the fashion industry then why not join our short online fashion sustainability course. It contains everything you need to know, from alternative sustainable textile sourcing to eco packaging and labelling.

Course Description

During this course we will look at sustainable alternatives for each aspect of the manufacturing process, investigate how to incorporate sustainability into product design and manufacturing, consider the ways other designers include sustainability in their business models, and learn how to incorporate circular design strategies by re-evaluating your chain offer.

The lessons include a theoretical basis on the definitions of sustainable, circular and responsible fashion along with their key principles. This is followed by design thinking methods that focus on your personal ethics to develop a perfect and unique solution for you. Sourcing raw materials, identifying chemicals used in processing, understanding the impact of energy and water use, and analysing products and finishing processes are just some of the considerations in developing sustainable fabrics.

This course will also cover all components and considerations on sustainable materials for fashion. It will cover eco-labels related to materials in world markets and teach you how to weigh the pros and cons of these labels. We will also touch on the eco-labels that apply to the packaging and labelling necessary for the retail environment.
